GENETICA EN LAS ABEJAS - GENETICS IN BEES (Spanish and English)

 Vida útil: 1 a 4 años.

 Vida útil: De 45 a 70 días.

GENETICS IN BEES
Chromosomes containing genes called hereditary units and all forms of a gene can occur in a locus are called alleles.
Allele means a version of a gene. For example, the genes for blue eyes and brown eyes are alleles of the eye color gene. Those who control the bees sex sex are called alleles. 19 alleles have been established in bees sex.

THE CONSANGUINITY IN BEES
The females come from the drones fertilized eggs and normal eggs directly, without being fertilized by sperm.
At one parthenogenesis was considered the basis of sex determination in bees. The theory was that if you had a set of chromosomes (haploid) was male and if you had two sets of chromosomes (diploid), was female. While this is a reasonable explanation, this theory is now known to be false.
There is a simple rule to determine the sex in bees:
If there are two different sex alleles present, the bee will become a female, (a worker or queen). If there is only one type of allele present, the bee will become a Drone.
There are only two possibilities for a single type of allele is present:

1. When born from an unfertilized egg, so that it contains only one allele of the sex, we have the case of a Drone Normal.

  Unfertilized egg              Fertilized egg
          DRONE        WOMEN WORKERS        QUEEN
2. But it may happen that if the egg is fertilized has both alleles of the same sex, the coming of the mother and the father. This fertilized egg also become a drone, but the drone will be abnormal because it is diploid, it contains two sets of chromosomes and can not function as a standard drone. These diploid drones are destroyed forever by worker bees, who eat them as soon as they are born.

THE QUEEN
 It has 32 chromosomes - 16 pairs.
 50% of their genes is provided by his mother and the other 50% is contributed by the father.
 By having a supply of Mother and Father is said to be diploid.
 Contribute 50% of the genetic load at 100% worker and drones.
 This is the only played in the hive.
 It mates once in her life with 7-20 drones.
 Save your drones semen separately on a spermatheca.
 Development Period: 16 days.
 Lifespan: 1-4 years.
 Queen Mating takes place in successive flights that can last several days, depending on weather conditions.
 In each hive output is fertilized by the sperm of a drone, which stores a spermatheca sector.
 These outputs can be between 7 to 20 and each separately fertilization is storing genetic contribution from the male.
 This mating activity is done once in your life and the preservation of semen remains unchanged throughout the life of the queen.
 The semen storage condition explains why in certain time of year, the appearance and / or behavior is different workers.
 In the Queens hybridization can occur and segregation of genes in the first cross (F1) but not in the drone which is a mere transmitter multiplier and female gametes.

WOMEN WORKERS
 It has 32 chromosomes - 16 pairs like the queen.
 50% of their genes is provided by his mother and the other 50% is contributed by the father.
 Within the hive forms subfamilies with a common parent.
 By having a supply of Mother and Father is said to be diploid like the queen.
 yielded reproducibility. However, in exceptional condition produces haploid drones.
 It has multiple functions.
 Development Period: 21 days.
 Shelf life: 45-70 days.

DRONES
 The drones have half the chromosomes 16 and his sperm have 16 chromosomes also therefore repeated the genetic characteristics of the queen. Therefore it is said to be Haploid.
 Its reproduction is asexual or sexual mono-gamete, since it is involved in sex cell or gamete.
 From the genetic point of view is the brother or half-brother of the queen.
 It is the reason for the bees, as this are responsible for transmitting their genes.
 Its main function is to fertilize virgin queens.
 Drones have only one gamete, born of an unfertilised egg why any pure breed born since for miscegenation would need two gametes.
 Development Period: 24 days.
 Lifetime: 70 days.
 The drone has no children, only grandchildren he has no father and his mother has only hereditary factors correspond to those of their grandparents. Therefore initially have no drone breeding F1, they appear only in the subsequent generation.
 The situation is further complicated by the fact that due to parthenogenesis, millions of sperm produced by a drone are all absolutely identical from a genetic standpoint.
 A result of this uniformity of genes in the drone means there is greater stability in the inheritance of the bee than in other forms of life.
